Planning your hunt with Bar M Outfitters is more than just booking a trip—it starts with getting properly licensed and prepared. Whether you're after trophy bull elk, mature mule deer, or a selective limited-opportunity hunt, securing your Arizona hunting license and tags is the first essential step. With expert guide Wyatt McIntosh and the Bar M team on your side, the process is simple and stress-free.
How to Obtain Your Arizona Hunting License
1. Purchase an Arizona Hunting License
All hunters—residents and non-residents—must have a valid Arizona hunting license before applying for tags. You can purchase your license online through the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) website or at any authorized license dealer. Licenses are valid for 365 days from the date of purchase.
License Types:
- Resident Hunting License: $37
- Non-Resident Hunting License: $160
- Youth License (ages 10–17): $5 (resident or non-resident)
We recommend purchasing your license well before any draw deadlines to ensure you're eligible for tag applications.
2. Apply for Big Game Tags in the Arizona Draw
Arizona uses a lottery-style draw system for most big game tags, including elk, mule deer, antelope, and bighorn sheep. Applications typically open in January for elk and antelope, and in May for deer, bighorn sheep, turkey, and other species. Non-residents are welcome to apply, but the competition can be stiff—this is where Wyatt’s years of experience come in.
How We Help:
- Personalized unit and species recommendations
- Bonus point strategies to improve your odds
- Reminders about important draw deadlines
- Help with group applications if you're hunting with a partner
Wyatt also monitors overlooked and limited-opportunity tags that are easier to draw and still provide outstanding hunting experiences—perfect for new hunters or those looking for quicker access.
3. Over-the-Counter (OTC) Tags
Some hunts, like archery mule deer in select units, are available with OTC tags. These can be purchased directly after you have your license and do not require a draw. OTC options are a great way to hunt Arizona sooner and often include quality opportunities in Central and Northern Arizona—where Bar M Outfitters actively scouts year-round.
4. Youth Hunting in Arizona
At Bar M Outfitters, we’re passionate about introducing the next generation to ethical, exciting hunting. Arizona offers generous youth seasons and discounted license prices. Wyatt works closely with families to create safe, memorable experiences for young hunters—including scouting, shot placement education, and game recovery.
